Life Uncommon
I posted something similar on a friend's blog. It seems appropriate to put here, too.
Life Uncommon
Jewel
I have been thinking of this song recently.
I especially think about the line
..lend your voices only
to sounds of freedom.
No longer lend your strength
to that which you wish
to be free from.
I think we have an obligation to not give any of our own support to the things that would enslave us. It's a very deep obligation. And, we are not tied down to former things except as we let ourselves be. There can always be change.
Freedom.
One of my friends quoted something about
freedom being the ability to love anyone and everyone.
Unless you love yourself, how can you do this?
And how can you let others love you?
Also,
I finished reading the perks of being a wallflower by stephen chbosky.
I don't know what the perks are.
I partially wish I'd read the book earlier, there's some good thoughts,
but I partially think I wouldn't have understood it, thus nullifying the thoughts.
It's too bad that so many thoughts and experiences can only be understood or appreciated or remembered when you've already had those thoughts or experiences. I keep thinking that living could advance so much farther if everyone didn't have to individually rediscover the same things.

I get suspicious when people post lyrics too much. It seems that they need the lyrics to speak for them. And if you can't speak for yourself, there must be something wrong with your voice. Where is it? Is it strong enough to find it's own words?
I notice a general correlation between people having a lot of internal trouble and lyrics-quoting.
Anyway,
here's the song.
Don't worry mother
It'll be alright
And don't worry sister
Say your prayers and sleep tight
And it'll be fine
Lover of mine
It'll be just fine
And lend your voices only
To sounds of freedom
No longer lend your strength
To that which you wish
To be free from
Fill your lives
With love and bravery
And you shall lead
A life uncommon
I've heard your anguish
I've heard your hearts cry out
We are tired, we are weary
But we aren't worn out
Set down your chains
Until only faith remains
Set down your chains
And lend your voices only
To sounds of freedom
No longer lend your strength
To that which you wish
To be free from
Fill your lives
With love and bravery
And we shall lead
A life uncommon
There are plenty of people
Who pray for peace
But if praying were enough
It would've come to be
Let your words enslave no one
And the heavens will hush themselves
To hear our voices ring our clear
With sounds of freedom
Sounds of freedom
Come on you unbelievers
Move out of the way
There is a new army coming
And we are armed with faith
To live, we must give
To live
And lend our voices only
To sounds of freedom
No longer lend our strength
To that which we wish
To be free from
Fill your lives
With love and bravery
And we shall lead...
And lend our voices only
To sounds of freedom
No longer lend our strength
To that which we wish
To be free from
Fill your lives
With love and bravery
And we shall lead
A life uncommon

Charlie is quoting Roark from The Fountainhead
"'I would die for you, but I won't live for you.' Something like that. I think the idea is that every person has to live for his or her own life and then make the choice to share it with other people. Maybe that is what makes people 'participate.' I'm not really certain."
"You can't just sit there and put everybody's lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can't. You've got to do things."
"Maybe it's good to put things in perspective, but sometimes, I think that the only perspective is to really be there. Like Sam said. Because it's ok to feel things. And be who you are about them."
I refer myself to my notebook.
