(paraphrased by impression as best as I remember)

"The way men live is so far removed from the way men ought to live
that he who forsakes what is for what ought to be pursues his ruin."

Actually a quote from Machiavelli. I think it's interesting because
it's blunt, but you can take it a couple ways. I'd like to think that
even if he's right, there are times when it's worth your ruin.
